pentecost offering and SALT

We've been busy as bees over at SALT making lots of media for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)!  The video above is a spot we created for Hope Partnership for Missional Transformation to support the recruitment, assessment, training and coaching of new church pastors, spouses and core team members (as you may know, Matt and Liz started a new church in Boston, MA (back in the day!) which makes this project especially sweet!).

When Dick Hamm, former general minister and president of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), introduced the 2020 Vision in 2001, he challenged the Christian Church to look like the face of America. He also set forth a challenge to start 1,000 new Disciples congregations by 2020.

Today, Disciples have started 800 new communities of faith and counting! More than 50,000 people have been introduce to the good news of the gospel, and 18 languages are spoken in their churches.

On May 12 and May 19, 2013, Disciples churches will collect the Pentecost Offering to fund the new church movement and they need your support (even though SALT's not a congregation, we'll all be opening our billfolds next month and pitching in for this important work!).

Anyway, let us know what you think about the short film above - we'd love to hear from you...

extra, extra

SALT received it's very first "shout out/review" in the spring edition of Magnet, a UK magazine about the Women's Network of the Methodist Church.  The mission of the magazine is to encourage, enable, and equip women to take their full place in the life of the church.

Here's what they had to say:

"Imagine my surprise when an unexpected parcel arrived from Indianapolis, US containing three DVDs.  SALT describes itself as 'a not-for-profit project dedicated to reclaiming and sharing the beauty of Christian life through film, photography, music, poetry, and ideas.'  Bless promotes the ancient gift of blessing in such an engaging way that I found myself smiling throughout, as adults and children described their own experiences of blessing everything from hammers to backpacks.  Resurrection brings the love of God to the most life-sapping situations.  Baptism is a story that arises from a letter a mother writes her daughter at a crisis point.  Each 10 minute film coveys a clear message: that in the midst of dark times there is the light of God's love to guide us."

Thanks to everyone on the other side of the pond for watching our films - we love the way you've summed them up!

Peace,

The SALT Team

merry christmas

Hello SALTy people,

We just wanted to extend our deepest thanks to everyone as the last few days of 2011 pass us by, falling like grains of sand in the hourglass my kids use every night to time their tooth brushing…

Looking back, it’s been an amazing year over here at SALT!  We’ve grown bigger (like Mary’s belly), we’ve let loose the good news of the gospel through music and film, and we’ve written many, many words full of God’s love, hope, peace, and justice for everyone.

Just so you know, we’ll be taking a little break from now until January 16th to spend time with our loved ones, recharger our batteries, and plan lots and lots and lots of amazing things for 2012.

But, before we go, we want to leave you with this:

You are the SALT of the earth!

You are the light of the world!

You are God’s masterpiece, a breathtaking work of divine art.

So:  go and be God’s raw and wild love in 2012, because the world needs you.

Thanks for being God’s SALT, the Earth’s SALT, this community’s SALT - and thanks for your ongoing love and support!  We couldn't do any of this without you...

Merry Christmas,

The SALT Team
